Why would you be stunned? People have problems. Any person. We all have problems. To pick on someone with problems because they are religious is stupid. What if he was black? Would you classify all blacks as drunks? There is nothing to be said. If you had a heroin addict, they would be able to maintain as long as they got good stuff. It's not a debate about drugs or alcohol. It's a debate about religion. It's easy to look down on people who are religious, but they are simply simple people who aren't able to think for themselves. They "believe". They should be pitied not taunted.

Thank you Rocksand. It's so refreshing to read a bit of wisdom. If Atheism - or mankind - is to develop we will not achieve this by being superior or looking down on any struggling sector of humanity. .

He was referring to the people at the babtism, not himself, as being stunned.  He said, they must have been stunned.  Anyone who was attending, or participating in the baptism would have been stunned, as this is supposed to be an important ceremony, that you would think would be taken seriously by the man hosting it.  

 

It's not just a debate about religion.  It's pointing out how hypcritical it is for someone to pretend as though they are somehow enlightened, and therefore "better" or more pure than others.  I think it is important to point out whenever anyone who claims to have some insight into god, or has some special relationship with god is no different than you or me.

I was molested by a member of the Church. It's one of the reasons I don't believe. It is very disgusting. Something no one wants to talk about. It is serious. People die sooner who are molested. It is a sick betrayal of trust.

In my mind there is infinity.
I don't "understand" it.
My limited brain can't define it.
A god can not exist in infinity.
To me it's not that there is no god, but that there is infinity.
