The magazine is published ten times a year. There is a paper version and an online version. This web site is for the online version of the magazine.
Subscriptions to the magazine are for ten issues. When you subscribe you will usually start with the latest available issue and will then have access to a total of ten issues as they are published.
The online magazine is in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. See below for information on obtaining the free reader from Adobe.
If you have not yet subscribed to The American Atheist Online you will need to sign up and pay for a one-year subscription in order to read online issues of the magazine. On almost every page on the site there is a login form and a link to subscribe.
Click the link to start the signup process. That first form is for entering your information. Fill it out and click “continue”.
The next form is for payment. If you want to use the same information for payment that you already entered on the first form, check the box labeled “Use login information”.
Select the “10 issues for $35” option, then fill in your credit card information.
We do not keep your credit card information on file, so you will need to enter it every time you purchase a subscription.
If you cannot complete your purchase at this time, you can cancel. You can purchase a subscription at any time once you log in with the email address you used for signing up.
You may extend your subscription by adding ten issues at any time. Visit “My Subscription” for a link to start the process.
If you previously signed up but did not purchase a subscription, follow this procedure as well.
In order to read online issues you must be logged in and have a subscription that includes the issue you want to access.
You will also need a copy of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. Almost everyone already has this on their computer, but if you don’t you can download it from Adobe.com. It is a free download.
If you are logged in and you have a subscription that covers the issue, the small covers on the home page are links. Click on a cover and the PDF of the magazine opens in a new window. The PDF files are fairly large and they may take a few minutes, especially on a dial-up connection.
You can also access the magazine issues from the “Online Issues” page. Online issues are listed in backwards date order and issues you have access to are links.
The PDF reader may look different depending on version and computer platform you are using. However, it typically has a control bar at the top that looks like this:
This bar allows you to print, save a copy, navigate the issue, and control the display.
If you want to print a copy of the magazine, make sure to use the print icon on the PDF reader bar. Using your browser’s printing function will not work. Your PDF reader print button probably looks like this:

If you leave a browser window open without clicking for twenty minutes or more, you may find that you are no longer logged in. If this happens simply log in again. If you have checked the "keep me logged in" option you will be logged back in automatically, but your session will still have been interrupted.
Older versions of Safari (before version 2) may have problems with the login system. On Macs that do not allow you to upgrade to Safari version 2, please try using Firefox instead. You can download Firefox free by clicking here.
Both Firefox and Safari may not be able to automatically open the PDF files. However, if you save them to your disk you will be able to open them with the Adobe reader.
