Speak Out Against Bush Veto of Stem Cell Research Bill!

Mark Thomas, President of the Atheists of Silicon Valley is urging Atheists, Freethinkers, Humanists and other nonbelievers to speak out against President Bush’s veto of funding for important stem cell research.

In a letter to local newspapers, Mr. Thomas writes:

The idea that a few hundred cells has the moral equivalence of a thinking human being is absurd, and exposes an ideology that is bereft of human compassion. George W. Bush’s term “compassionate conservative” is nothing but empty political rhetoric. Once again, religion is attempting to stop the progress of science and medicine that could improve the quality of life for many of us.

We encourage you to speak out in defense of humane and enlightened stem cell research! California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is authorizing loans to put his state in the lead for important medical breakthroughs that utilize stem cell investigation. A full national effort is required, though. And Mr. Bush’s veto of this important legislation shows that he is putting religious dogmatism ahead of good science.
