American Atheists, Inc. “Slaves Obey Your Masters” Billboard to Challenge the “Year of the Bible” in Harrisburg, PA

American Atheists announced today that it is putting up its first “Year Of the Bible” billboard starting in Harrisburg, PA. Pennsylvania Nonbelievers has joined in the cost of this billboard. The first billboard will be in place on or about March 5th, 2012 on 13th and Paxton Street in Harrisburg, PA.

The first billboard, designed by the Pennsylvania State Director, Ernest Perce V, and a design team that includes Zachary B., that includes a picture of a slave in obedience to his master citing a new testament bible verse Colossians 3:22 “Slaves obey your masters” found in several versions of the bible

The message this billboard conveys is the House of Representatives should not be celebrating a barbaric and Bronze Age book. We do not in any way condone slavery, but the bible does. We have outgrown such hideous actions toward humanity.

The target audience of our billboard is closeted atheists and the members who support the “Year of The Bible.” The fastest way for a Christian to become an Atheist is to read the bible. We want them to recognize that they see the application of the verse and how awful the bible is and come out of the closet. We especially want the in-the-pew atheists to begin to question why they are continuing the charade of going to church and giving their money in coercion of the bible.

The billboard is rented for 28 days following the date it is first revealed, on or about March 5th, 2012. The billboard also lets the fellow atheists know that both local and national organizations out there for them.

The Billboard is not designed to offend people, but we know some people will be upset due to the nature of religious belief. Regardless of one’s theological views, we should all support Freedom of Speech. The real offensive view comes from those who say we do not have the right to be offensive, we all have seen this past week what happens when freedom of speech is trumped.
