Atheists Advocate Separation of Church and State at DNC
Cranford, NJ-- American Atheists will participate in a protest today organized by the Charlotte Atheists and Agnostics (CAA), an American Atheists affiliate, during the Democratic National Convention. The protest will be held September 4, 2012, from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. at the Speakers Platform on the corner of Stonewall and Caldwell street, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The protest will include speakers from the CAA discussing the necessity of the separation of religion and government in the United States.
Mary Snow, Vice President of the Charlotte Atheists and Agnostics said, “The DNC's presence in Charlotte has provided CAA with a great opportunity to remind our local and national elected officials of their duty to serve all citizens regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof.”
David Silverman, President of American Atheists said, “I’m proud to stand with the CAA as we lift our voices in opposition to the position religion has in our governmental system. Our nation was founded upon a system that guarantees equal rights to all people. By allowing religion to have a prominent place in the leadership of our country, we violate these freedoms.”
For more information about the protest, please contact the Charlotte Atheists and Agnostics at: http://charlotteatheists.com
