FOX News Facebook Page on 9/11 Cross Generates Death Threats Against Atheists
FOX News readers on Facebook started going off after Blair Scott, Communications Director for American Atheists, appeared on America Live with Megyn Kelly. Blair reports that when he returned home from his local FOX station for the interview that his voice mail was full of messages and his inbox had almost 200 hateful messages. "I can always tell when someone from American Atheists is on FOX news, because my Inbox explodes with hate email," said Blair.
We can talk about the issues about this, but our friend William Hamby has put it well over at the Examiner. In addition, Practical Doubt was able to capture some more as well. Unfortunately, they blacked out the names of the guilty.
Moderators on FOX News' Facebook page had been trying diligently to delete the violent threats, but not before they were screen-captured by a diligent American Atheists member named Robert Posey.
Here are the screen captures of the death threats and threat of violence posted against atheists. We have left their screen names in place. If you're devoted enough to make the death threat then you should be devoted enough to have your name attached to your hatred. How many did FOX News delete before they could be captured? There are over 8,000 comments on their post related to Blair's appearance on FOX News.

0h the irony of saying "few groups are filled with more hatred than atheists" alongside these colorful comments by fellow loving Christians. +1 mankind
Its really sad religious people post this Hate mail and the sad part is their suppose to be so loving and understanding. Its just a farce on their part. Well, they can threaten us all they want but they won't silence our voices.
I am a Christian and I base my Christianity along with Christ him self. If I based it along side of you so called Christians on here I would be as bad of a hypocrite as you. My Lord has NEVER said, "They don't believe, Lets kill em." So if any of you "Christians" are knocking atheists or any other belief. You're worse than anything you claim the others to be.
We all have choices and we made ours, I agree.
It just not right to harm or
It just not right to harm or threaten other people just because you do not agree on his beliefs and ideology. Why can't other people just learn to respect other's belief, in that way, their will be no issue like this around us. - Dan Sciscente
Thankfully these people are a minority, but I feel something needs to be done about these death threats. Whether you threaten atheist or religious leader it is no less intolerable! It's nice to see they can't always hide their bad eggs, but remember they are the bad eggs, not everyone is like this.
Agreed with Blackatheist, we will never back down no matter how often people threaten our lives!
-Bigleon
True. They're facing the same issue that every subset of people face. The squeaky wheel gets the oil! Just like how so many people have clustered all atheists as supporting of the manner of this law suit.
I don't think those people posting are the minority when it comes to sentiments, though. For every one that is vocal, there's 5 that are thinking and agreeing with it. And, the possibility for follow-through is disturbingly high. I had nice little crosses /slashed/ into my tires after an ethics class debate once. Fun times!
Unfortunately, even though the nutjobs are a minority, it only takes one to commit an act of violence. I doubt they take a poll before they decide to take action.
Looks like some got deleted from my link above, but here's one that still there:
Matthew Moll- Let's erect the 911 cross and all gather 'round and hang each athiest by the neck from it until dead...And may God have mercy on their pathetic souls because God knows, I WON'T!!!
Matthew Moll- If athiests had their way, we'd remove all the crosses from every soldier cemetary as well, huh???---You athiests make everyone sick with your pathetic, half-baked whimper and whines. You all should be exterminated like the plague that you are!!!
Matthew Moll- Two words for you athiest...'SMITH & WESSON'---Use one one yourself today! :0}
I was looking at his profile info and found it a little funny. He likes Lance Armstrong, Jesus, etc. I have to wonder if he knows that Lance Armstrong is an atheist.
I am not an Athist, I am not a Christian. I am an American. I understand that, much as Christians would like it to be so, America is not a Christian nation. We are a nation that allows everyone to embrace their belief regardless of our personal opinion. That makes us unique in the world.
Violence against people is illegal in America, we are supposed to be better than that.
These so-called Christians, the ones that are pro-death penalty, pro-gun, anti-intellect are not Americans, they are just like the Fundamentalist Muslims or the Hasidic Jews: they cannot tolerate a world in which others hold beliefs that differ from theirs. They would do very well in Saudi Arabia. Perhaps we can send them there, let them see what life under religious rule is really like.
I am embarrassed for them, ashamed of them and want the Feds to step in and stop them.
Now YOU'RE a christian I can get along with!
Except for the fact that they clearly stated they're NOT a Christian...
"We are a nation that allows everyone to embrace their belief regardless of our personal opinion."
Then why do atheists always feel the need to protest and sue every time a Christian practices their beliefs???? You're saying that we're a nation that allows everyone to "embrace their belief" on a post that is discussing atheists suing over Christians doing just that. Isn't hat a bit hypocritical?
Because you're not allowed to practice your beliefs on PUBLIC property with TAXPAYER MONEY. That's called state sponsorship of religion and it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Put the cross back at the church where it was and there will be no objections.
"We are a nation that allows everyone to embrace their belief regardless of our personal opinion. That makes us unique in the world. "
I think you're missing a huge part of the world in this statement. Like Europe and Australasia.
While the freedom of religion (and lack of) is certainly a good thing, do not make the mistake of thinking the US is the only "liberated" country in the world.
Unfortunately, RedDonnaAnn, You are not American. You do not fit the American profile - Christian and Ignorant.
These death threats must be dealt with. For anyone of any "religion" to spout this kind of hatred toward other human beings is utterly sad.

Canada
dont forget death threats are illegal
These people are disgusting. All they are showing is that they are filled with intolerance, rigidity, and pure hate. It makes me sad and angry at the same time to see how anyone could say these kinds of things about people they don't know.
It's people like these that bring more violence and hate into the world hurting others to make themselves feel better. I would have more to say but it honestly shocks me to see those comments. All that lives inside these shells of a human being are hearts filled with cruelty, ignorance and darkness. I think people who make active death threats like this should be arrested. You never know if they might act on their hate.
What makes me want to laugh and gnash my teeth all at once is the fact that the First Amendment protects the right of these hateful goons to spew this sewage, and by trying to make America a Xian theocracy, they are too stupid to realize that they are attempting to torpodo their own rights!
Simple Christians, live by your beliefs. From Christ's own mouth: Matthew 5:44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Proverbs 25:21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
Luke 6:27 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
Luke 6:28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Luke 23:24 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
Acts 7:60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.
Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Romans 12:20 On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."
1 Thessalonians 5:15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
DOCUMENTED FOR YOUR "IMMORTAL SOUL" BY AN ATHIEST
Whoops. Spelled it wrong! That's the first time I ever referred to myself as an Atheist.
we've been arguing with these people too...there are a few death threats in the comments towards the top.
http://www.facebook.com/NeverForget911/posts/133719300050381
I am thinking you should list their FB Profile links so we can send them friend requests and messages expressing our love.
Aweh yeaaah. Lol'd.
pauldoulos, give us one example of where this has happened.
Intolerant assclowns like this are a disgrace to our great country. I'd rather take a bullet for an Atheist than shoot one.
These people aren't very Christian with their opinions. Therefore they are advocating the deaths and raping of themselves.
The true religion of peace.
Christianity at it's typicalness. Intolerant, sexist, homophobic, violent. I can tolerate religion but not of those like death threats, fundamentalism, or discrimination. Unfortunately, the facebookers above clearly show the characteristics I listed.
It seems to me that by talking about the 'typicalness of christianity', in your anger and disgust you are becoming very close to being intolerant yourself. You say you can tolerate religion but by your own statement you don't seem to realise that there is no 'typical' Christian. The different churches give their viewpoints but each member of each church interprets that in their own way! Unfortunately some interpret it with the violence we see above but please do not think that is in anyway 'typical'. I do not want to diminish the actions of these people - and I hesitate to call them Christians as they do not show any Christian values in their words - as what they have done is disgusting and quite simply very, very wrong, but it must be said that they ARE the minority. There may have been thousands of comments but there are billions of Christians in the world who preach tolerance, love and understanding.
"...in your anger and disgust you are becoming very close to being intolerant yourself."
So what you're saying is that we're intolerant of intolerance? We don't disagree.
We are intolerant of female genital mutilation at the hands of Islamic clerics. We are intolerant of the subjugation of women by religions. We are intolerant of violence and hatred "doted" on those who disagree with religion. We are intolerant of death threats made against those who dare to disagree with the views of religious adherents. We are intolerant of religiously-generated homophobia, theocracy, violence, etc.
And that, Sandy72, is a typical Christian response.
That's a typical Christians response as well. Over 11,000 posts on FOX's Facebook page regarding this issue and not a single one of them chastised those who were espousing violence and making death threats. Not a single Christian on that page called them out and demanded that they retract their violent statements and sentiments. Not a one. Only after the atheists brought it to light did the "guilt" set in and suddenly everyone is backpedaling and saying how those few are "not true Christians."
Total hogwash. And that is typical of Christianity.
Those are numbers for his business. Free advertisement, anybody?.
Nice, spread someone's personal information? No wonder religious people don't like atheists.
It's publicly advertised information for a business. But by all means, focus on that instead of the death threats made by the faith-tards.
You are showing the same characteristics you seem to despise in others! You cannot expect others to respect your choice of beliefs if you don;t respect theirs! Please explain how calling religious people 'faithtards' and sharing the personal information of others on the web shows that you are any better than the people who threaten someone else for their beliefs! You may have spent 24 years defending te constituton but you clearly don't understand what it means!
"You cannot expect others to respect your choice of beliefs if you don;t respect theirs!"
So if I don't respect someone's beliefs (and I don't), then I can expect death threats from those that believe it?
I have zero respect for beliefs in the invisible and non-existent. I have zero respect for the immoral and unethical theology that follows those silly beliefs. And I definitely have zero respect for any person that would resort to death threats and violence when their beliefs are questioned.
You're funny!
There is a big difference between respecting someone's beliefs and respecting the right of someone to believe whatever they want. I support the latter (as long as there is no harm to anyone), but I don't respect any religious belief. I think that anyone who holds a religious belief has probably been deluded by others and has not held their own views up to critical review. Refering to someone as a 'faithtard', or any other derogatory name is extremely mild when you compare it to death threats. I hope you have the capacity to understand that. Also, as has been pointed out here, sharing publically available telephone numbers with the public is not a crime.
Please show me in the U.S. Constitution where is says that I have to respect religious beliefs.
Something worth pointing out: Threats of violence and/or the incitement of violence are NOT protected under the 1st amendment. That being said, I think our police force might be a bit overwhelmed if they pursued someone every time they made a threat on the internet.
What bizarre to me is that these people do not realize how much they are hurting the view of their position. No matter who is really right or wrong, the violent one is seen as the one in the wrong.
Well said! We can see with the number of comments here that all these people have done is turn a number of tolerant people who are simply following their own set of beliefs into people who are beginning to despise Christianity and the only people we can blame are the minority who claim to be following in Jesus' path. Do they not see that this is one of the - albeit many - reasons people turn away from God! It often has very little to do with God Himself and everything to do with the people who claim to be acting in His Name!
Keep trying to distance yourself from your brethren in Christ. It's amusing the rest of us how much you don't want to admit that they are just as Christian as you are.
They are somewhere right now chastising you for not being a True Christian (TM). Jerry Falwell once referred to Christians like you as "weenie Christians." Ironic, huh?
Transcribed for those of you who can't read the images (cell phone browsers, etc.):
Paul Altum writes, “i say kill them all and let them see for themselves that there is God”
Bob O'Connell writes, “Shoot them. Shoot to kill.”
Joe Martinez writes, “TO ALL ATHEIEST DIE AN GO TO HELL HAHA IF I COULD ID SHOOT ALL OF YOU IN THE HEAD WITH A 12GAUGE”
Joseph Sneckenberg writes, “thats easy shoot them”
Casey M Jones writes, “Shoot em. At least we know where they're going, waste of oxygen”
Mike Holeschek writes, “Nail them to that cross then display it”
Chris Dunn writes, “I thinly we should hang the leader of that group on the cross with nails through their hands and feet, place a crown of thorns upon their head, RAM a spear through their side all after being whipped and beaten publicly! Just so they can endure what Christ did so they understand the sacrifice behind what that cross symbolizes.”
Bob O'Connell writes, “They're atheists so it won't matter if you kill them.”
Richard Silvia writes, “someone show me where they live&they will live no mere!”
Tim Allison writes, “KILL THEM.”
Raylene Ingmire writes, “Here's my solution, kill the group..just kidding, you figure it out. I'm so sick of people that pick and choose when they want to truly be American. They can go to Hell oh wait they will.”
Sindy Clock writes, “stupid atheists, I hope God kills them all”
Sindy Clock writes, “I love Jesus, and the cross and if you don't, I hope someone rapes you!”
Eileen Rourke writes, “Any court or lawyer who takes this case should be hung!!!!!! If you look at some of the people who are atheists they are all miserable looking because they don't have any faith in anything. You all should go live in another country. You have taken enough of my rights away.”
Hans Anderson writes, “atheist has no rights a snail has more rights than a atheist has i say throw them out to the sharks let them eat them like the ate bin laden”
Michael Perri writes, “these people are f'ing scum of the earth. can we start killing them now? few groups are filled with more hatred than athiests.”
Scott Miller writes, “IF THE CROSS OFFENDS YOU: SO SHOULD THIS COUNTRY;LEAVE BEFORE WE KILL YOU!!!!”
Patrick Alley writes, “Kill em all...let God sort em out. Guess what Atheists....”
"they're all miserable looking because they have no faith in anything." False, we have no faith in a higher power due to lack of evidence towards it's/their existence. Not only that, but many of us have faith in our own selves. Something Christians seem to lack when it comes down to it. Otherwise, they wouldn't be running rampant posting these sorts of comments. It's called morals, and I'm positive they're mentioned in the Bible. Just because I don't have have faith within your God(s), doesn't mean I don't have morals, and I personalty wouldn't go around spamming hateful messages on the internet if Atheists lost this case.
2) If all men are created equal, and figuratively speaking a God did exist, then what I do now here on Earth won't really matter if all is forgiven would it? Think for a second : don't you think your God would be intrigued to see where Atheism takes mankind? To see the changes it brings? If we were all religious and devoted to conservative fundamentals, the human race wouldn't be where it was today. Digressing from the Roman catholic tradition is one of the best things our culture could do. It brings persecution in every sense of the word, whether it be race, gender, sexual orientation, etc, and it pulls humanity apart at the seams. Very few Atheists I've met in my lifetime bash Christians publicly, or or at all for that matter. The majority of the Atheists who are devoted to the cause and don't just say they're part of it to be rebellious, understand religion to a T, and have decided that based on supported evidence, they cannot believe that God exists. It's not that hard to comprehend, and I'm sure that if there is a higher power of any sort, he's smacking himself in the face right now. Accept others for their beliefs, even if it opposes yours. Sincerely, the 17 year old kid who understands it more than some of you will ever hope to.
You don't have to come out to be active and to be a part of the movement. You can donate to organizations that are doing the fighting. You can join a local group and get some like-minded conversation in. Email me at bscott @ atheists . org and I can help you find a local group!
I've found most of them on Facebook. I've invited them to be my friend with:
Hi there (name),
I’ve spent the last 24 years of my life in the military defending the US Constitution, and I’m one of the atheists you’ve marked for death. I’d like to be your friend on Facebook so that I can track your location (which I’ve already started through other means), and take safety precautions should you appear to be travelling in my general area. Looking forward to hearing from you!
One Casey M. Jones, who thinks that we should be shot and use far too much oxygen, owns a lawn service in Ridgeland, Mississippi. You can contact him at 601-506-4439 or 601-605-0759 if you'd like to get your lawn cared for and then perhaps get shot in the face.
This is better than cartoons.
Your being worse than they are. If you were truly better than you would simply ignore their behavior and not imitate it which is exactly what you have done here. Complete morons like you make the rest of the military look bad.
That's an amazing bit of mind-twisting irrationality. I'm "worse than they are" because I would like to know if they are heading my way to carry out their death threats. You contend that "Be my friend on Facebook so I can see if you're coming to kill me" is EXACTLY the same as "Rape them, shoot them, kill them”?
I will continue to serve, and defend your right to believe in whatever lunacy you care to, or even lash out with ad hominem attacks in an attempt to sideline the real point of the issue. However, I’m quite sure that the guarantees granted by the 1st Amendment do not include “Freedom to threaten citizens with death”.
Getting shot at far from home and family is a part of the job we all have to accept. I just never expected it to happen here.
I love it whenever FauxNews "xperts" (among others) panic big-time as soon as they are challenged & specially when thier own book is put to ridicule. Yet, double standards is a must for 'em. Specially when $ is the subject.
