2012 National Convention
Washington, DC & Bethesda, MD
The Reason Rally
On March 24, 2012, tens of thousands of atheists, humanists, and freethinkers descended on the National Mall in Washington DC for the largest gather of atheists ever. Featuring speeches from Richard Dawkins, Adam Savage, David Silverman, and Todd Stiefel and musical performances by Tim Minchin and Shelley Segal, the Reason Rally was the result of the combined efforts of a broad coalition of national atheist, secular, and freethought organizations including American Atheists, the American Humanist Association, the Secular Coalition for America, the Secular Student Alliance, and many more.
American Atheists National Convention
Following the Reason Rally, American Atheists kicked off our 38th Annual National Convention at the Bethesda North Marriott and Convention Center. Featured speakers included Richard Dawkins and Methodist Pastor Teresa MacBain who announced, on stage, that she was an atheist. MacBain later became the Public Relations Director of American Atheists and is now the Executive Director of the Humanists of Florida.
