Cross Case Lies
WASHINGTON -- A group of California lawmakers is pushing for congressional protection for religious symbols included at U.S. war memorials after the latest court challenge to a San Diego veterans monument that features a 43-foot high cross.
Earlier this month, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Mount Soledad cross -- which has been at the center of legal fights for more than two decades -- amounts to an unconstitutional display of government favoring a specific religion, and must be changed. Supporters of the memorial have vowed to continue fighting the case to the Supreme Court.
...
But opponents of the cross say its presence replaces the military focus of the memorial with a Christian one. Supporters say a defeat in California could have widespread changes for memorials throughout the country, including Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, where religious symbols are engraved in the headstones of thousands of fallen servicemembers.
Just for the record, that's not true. Once again, Christian lawmakers are either LYING or woefully ignorant about the laws of this country.
A huge cross that stands alone is unquestionably Christian endorsement, as is the lawmaker's fight to make it legal. It is far different than Arlington, where, thanks to the separation of church and state, there are a wealth of symbols which are allowed, including atheism, all equally, all without endorsing one religion over another.
This is another waste of time. Even if this bigoted law passed, it would NOT circumvent the Supreme Court. It would be challenged and shot down as illegal, all at taxpayer's expense. In Jesus' name, amen.

Maybe we should install one of our billboards on public land. Ha! That's the surefire way to establish a precedent that such displays are illegal.
But that's exactly the thing that they're fighting. There is plenty of precedent already. Just sayin
"It would be challenged and shot down as illegal, all at taxpayer’s expense."
You hope. You place a lot of faith in the fickle opinions of nine old, and highly politically influenced people, to support you position.
I agree for the most part. The court is clearly conservative, but Kennedy does provide that swing vote. I am not sure that he would side with the liberal judges on this one though. (By the way, who are you calling old? Three of the justices are still in their 50's, just sayin :).
However, I do not think it will even get that far. I don't think the democratic Senate would even allow it to come to the floor. I think we are pretty safe on this one at least for a couple of years.
They are probably going to end up just modifying it and adding symbols from other religions, and also allowing an atheist symbol or plaque of some sort.
The symbols would all have to be the same size, right? I can't imagine adding half a dozen others, each 43 feet high. Plus once they started adding others, it would be a slippery slope until there were hundreds of requests.
DD Dropout, LOL. I would love to see 43 foot symbols of all the religions especially the Wiccan and Satanist religions. The Christians would be poopin in their pants over that. Maybe they will finally learn that if you want a Christian symbol to be displayed on public land, you will also have to include symbols of all the infidels. I think Christians will eventually get the message. We just have to keep fighting.
