Same-sex Marriage Victory in NY
Wedding plans are blooming, now that New York has become the sixth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Couples who had talked about going out of state to wed changed their plans. Wedding planners anticipate picking up business. And churches that accept gay unions say they're looking forward to hosting ceremonies.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed same-sex marriage into law late Friday, shortly after the Senate approved the measure for the nation’s third most-populous state, with 19.4 million residents.
I'm thrilled, but not surprised.
I have said over and over that same-sex marriage is a church and state issue. I regard this as a solid victory for the good guys, and a big fat loss for the Religious Right and the Catholic Church (get used to it). Morality has won a battle over religious oppression, and there are many more to come.
I'm not surprised because we, the good guys, will eventually win all these battles. Same-sex marriage victories are themselves symptoms of the rising tide of intolerance of religious bigotry, as well as support for secularism and the separation of church and state. In the coming years, same-sex marriage will become the norm, and the next battle lines will be drawn. We will win there too.
This is what happens when we speak, when we yell, and when we raise picket signs. This is all the result of activism. I would like to personally extend a hearty handshake to the activists who participated in this win.

Yeah, not too keen on what emotions your imaginary friend has.
What a surprise - a free pass. Managed to absolve yourself of any responsibility whatsoever.
Standard.
I know this won't matter to you, but I'm one of hundreds of thousands of religious folk from all walks of life that are THRILLED with this decision. God doesn't hate fags - he loves everyone.
Your battle lines seem really, really personal. Don't listen to the inflexible shit the Religious Right puts out there.
These people DO NOT represent us.
Peace
were dose it say he loves fags, I believe he blinded the eyes of the people of Sodium.
He loves all people but having sex with someone of the same sex is a sin and doing this will cause a person not to have faith in Jesus and if you don't have faith your headed for the lake of fire. Believing is not the same as knowing him because the demons knew Jesus but there not going on to Heaven. I guess people need to worry more about what is about to happen then there self's. I love sex but I know God doesn't want me to have sex before I'm married but I keep asking for help so I can walk with him.
You have got to be kiddin' me. You're confusing Lot's wife w/the fate of the mythical Sodom?
There's nobody up there.
So...middle school not working out for ya? Been held back a few grades?
Yeah, all that's apocryphal. IOW, didn't happen. & Jebus never existed in the 1st place.
It wasn't Lots wife, the citizens wanted to have sex with it was the two Angles who came to save Lot and his family. After Lot said he would give them his daughters the Angels then blinded there eyes...
This is just one of many examples
Hello? Another name for salt is Sodium? Joke?
How is it that xtians never see how despicable these stories are? Giving up your 2 young daughters to gang rape instead of 2 alleged 'angels'? How is that not horrific to anybody w/a brain? Sodom & Gomorrah were situated on natural gas deposits, which exploded. It wasn't the wrath of DOG.
It's all a bunch of fairy tales anyways - there's no god & the bible's a load of shit.
I'm confused about making same sex marriage a law?
Doesn't most religions conceder same sex as a wrong. So if one was to make a law that same sex marriage was legal wouldn't this cross the barrier between church and state.
Isn't the term gay a word to describe having a sexual relationship with the same sex.
We can go to dinner, swimming, driving, walking and even talk to someone of the same sex. Why do we care how they have sex.
I understand this is a non believing God website but I also understand that Atheists believe in the separation of Church and State.
So If we take the military stance "don't tell" this would give this issue to the Gay person and his maker. If the Gay person wants to force his view of his sexual preference then he would cross the person who believes on the religious principle, in hence mixing church with state.
I have noticed some take the stance that Gay's are a race of people -- this is not true.
From your posts, I'd say you were permanently confused. About reality.
All religions are wrong anyways, so moot point.
Actually, passing laws against same-sex marriage is imposing a religious belief on others. So you have it backwards.
Here's another problem w/this religious horseshit - it seems to fry people's logic circuits.
Laws against same-sex marriage are primarily religious, because there are no good secular arguments against it.
Thank you Krystalline for the name calling and your view point.
"Doesn’t most religions conceder same sex as a wrong. So if one was to make a law that same sex marriage was legal wouldn’t this cross the barrier between church and state."
Only if the government forced clergy to perform same-sex wedding ceremonies. You know, like they're forced to perform heterosexual wedding ceremonies now, especially when the government forces a Rabbi to marry a Baptist and vice versa. /sarcasm
Seriously, this is in no way a violation of SOCAS by any stretch of the imagination because there is no forcing this on anyone. The law has a secular purpose that does not intrude upon religion. If you're offended because of your religious beliefs then that is your problem to deal with, because the government is not forcing you to marry gays or lesbians or forcing your church to perform wedding ceremonies.
Why would anyone who is gay or lesbian want to marry in a church where the leadership and minions think they're an abomination?
That's a stumper. My guess it would be mostly self-loathing gays/lesbians who were brainwashed @ an early age?
Scott thank you for your commit -- I like your view point. I'm a man who still believes in my Lord Jesus Christ and his Gospel of Good News.
I appreciate that there is people like you who can give an honest and sincere answer. I have just been a little confused because I believe athleticism is a religion too. I didn't know Rabbis had to marry a Baptist because there not to talk to Gentiles at all, but I'm not Jewish nor do I believe I will marry one unless they believe in Jesus.
I would like to say to the others I'm just exploring the reasons for others thoughts on subject and trying to figure out why.
Im retired Army currently working as an Army civilian. About 2 months ago the whole Army family receive their "Treat homosexuals with dignity" training in preparation for repealing "Dont ask, dont tell". Also included in the training was that in churches on Army bases your allowed to hold to your belief. The belief that homosexuality is a sin as defined by the bible....
None so blind as those who will not listen...hehehe.
Everyone here has given an honest & sincere answer.
HAHAHAHA! I'd say you were way more than a 'little confused'. 1st, you mean 'atheism' not 'athleticism', 2nd, atheism is a religion like bald is a hair color.
I'm hoping you don't marry @ all - it'll weaken the gene pool.
It's just a lack of belief in the supernatural. It's amazing how many people get all lathered up if you don't believe in fairies.
Amazing.
I mean a Religion to that your trying so hard to tell everyone there wrong on there believes which most Religions try to do.
I don't believe in so called Religion. Jesus did not like Religion he wants us to have a Relationship with him.
Religion to me is a group of people with the same believe, making there own believes on others to make them fill good of there own believes.
Krystal I feel you have so much hate, what did I do to make you say such awful things about me. Is Atheism a group that hates all people?
