February 10, 2011
TELL CONGRESS NOW -- APPROVE DARWIN DAY RESOLUTION!
U.S. Representative Pete Stark (D-CA, in collaboration with the AHA) has introduced legislation that would designate February 12, 2011 as "Darwin Day," a celebration and recognition of "the importance of science in the betterment of humanity."
The measure explicitly cites "the validity of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection," and calls for "a global celebration of science and humanity intended to promote a common bond among all of Earth's peoples."
The measure is designated as H. Res.81, and be found here.
LET CONGRESS HEAR FROM YOU NOW!
We urge you to contact your Congressional Representative immediately and express your support for Rep. Peter Stark's timely and courageous resolution.
* Visit the House of Representatives web site and click on the "Write Your Representative" icon on the top left-hand side or you can go to WriteRep and fill out all of the information.
* Make your comments pithy and polite; be sure to ask for a response.
* Thank Rep. Pete Stark for introducing this measure! We anticipate the religious right organizations will be doing all they can to defeat this resolution. So, let Congressman Stark know that you support his efforts to declare an official day of recognition on behalf of Charles Darwin, evolution and good science! You can also visit his web site.

Dear Congressman Gardner,
I'm writing to request that you support House Resolution 81, which designates February 12, 2011 as "Darwin Day".
If you feel that America's standing in the world with respect to Education and Science must not fall any further toward the status of laughingstock, I implore you to support the resolution and urge your peers in the House to do the same.
By passing this resolution, the House will contribute to the American public's understanding, as well as that of the rest of the world, that you will not succumb to the Religious Right's attempts to drag us back to the Dark Ages, when Science and Education were considered works of evil.
Thank you for your time and your support!
With the Party of Jesus firmly in control of the House this measure is obviously doomed to failure. I prfer to fight battles I might have a chance to win.
The idea is a great idea, it just won't float in a quasi-theocracy.
If Galileo thought this way, we'd probably still think Earth is the center of the universe.
Glad you didn't say flat since the ancient Greeks new it was round and made a fairly accurate estimation of its size.
Excellent point! Even Copernicus who noted that the calculations were a lot easier for a heliocentric solar system didn't have the guts to stand up and say that the solar system was indeed a solar system. Way to go Galileo for standing up for the truth! And yet it moves.
Oh, and further, what better way to celebrate Darwin, not the first to recognize evolution, but the first to not only explain it, but to have the guts to include humans in it than to have a day of celebration that is not in line with the thinking of the sheeple?!
Maybe it should be April 1st?
How can I get Jim Jordan, who does not even respect the separation between church and state, to support Darwin day? I sent the message but it probably ended up in the trash bin.
