American Atheists is dedicated to freedom of thought and civil rights for those who don't follow religion. However, the Youth and Family section has its own mission and vision, in accordance with the overall objectives of American Atheists.

Mission: To put ourselves out of business -- by reducing intolerance towards Atheists in schools and communities to the point of near-nonexistence. We will do this by fostering dialogue in schools, promoting the establishment of school clubs, and aiding parents who face discrimination from the school system.

Vision: An America where:

  • Children are not forced, pressured, or coerced to pray in the public school system in any way.
  • Atheist students are able to speak about their thoughts without repurcussions of any kind
  • Nonreligious clubs are present wherever they are wanted by even the smallest minority of students, and they enjoy the same rights as other religious and secular clubs
  • Students are not ashamed or afraid to speak what they think.
  • School faculty do not penalize students who disagree with them in any way
  • Science classes are restricted to the teaching of current scientific principles, as opposed to any kind of mythology or dogma.
