                    ATHEISTS PRAISE KENNEDY AWARD
              Award to Judge Price Just and Appropriate

    American Atheists today praised the Kennedy Family for their decision
to bestow on Judge Charles Price of Alabama the prestigious John F. Kennedy
Profiles in Courage Award for his wisdom and vision.
    Ronald Barrier, National spokesman for the organization, praised Judge
Price in his attempt "to restore order and civility to a lawless Alabama
Judiciary." The Profiles in Courage Award was given to Judge Price for
his ruling against Judge Roy Moore, the famous "10 Commandments" judge
who coerces attendees in his courtroom to participate in
Baptist-orchestrated rituals against their wills. Governor James of
Alabama has threatened violence towards anyone who attempts to enforce
Judge Price's ruling to cease the prayers and remove the decalogue.
    "This award is consistent with the late president's position regarding
government and religion," noted Mr. Barrier. "In his speech of Sept. 12,
1960 to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association he stated, 'I believe
in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute ...
where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly
upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials.'
    "There is nothing more to add," concluded Mr. Barrier.
