Happy Oester!

From all of us at American Atheists, we wish to wish you a Happy Vernal Equinox (you know- the REAL event that spurred the Pagan Holiday Oester, later usurped by Christianity and many other religions to represent the rebirth of their god).

The Convention is over -- we all had a great time. Here's a picture of me and the two Scholarship winners from last year, Anna Ka and Hemant Mehta (see the link to Hemant's blog below).

I just watched the Masters golf tournament. The winner, 31-year old Zach Johnson, said, "I want to thank my sponsers, my family, my coaches, but mostly my savior Jesus.

Professional athletes are not intellectual giants (in his defense). They spend 90% of their time honing their skills. But we did get the message out to about 20 million viewers. Oh, well.

Sorry, this was off topic, but just occurred.

I'm glad y'all had a good convention. I went to my Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and heard a good humanist presentation on John the Baptist and Jesus-- nothing repellent to this UU Infidel. Happy Oester Monday to all.

Watched the Masters, too, and I just KNEW Johnson would say something like that if he won. It would probably take something supernatural to improve my golf game, too - but hearing Johnson thank Jesus? Predictable, conceited, and nauseating!

The golf gods must be so upset :)

Johnson's comments after the Masters was very arrogant. Does he actually think his imaginary friend cares more about how he hits a little white ball than, oh, I don't know, genocide?!

Just goes to show you how the RR can be so egotistical and arrogant.

I spent Oester by driving a couple of hours to help a friend down on his luck. He's a very experienced construction worker who's having a rough time right now finding work, so we got together to cut down a tree (very trick, difficult operation on private property) that he can now sell for firewood.

Then I drove a few more hours to go pick up my wife at the airport. She had to fly to Texas (round trip from Reno) to attend a family funeral.

My aching tooth kept me from fully enjoying the day, but otherwise I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Helping out friends and family in need. Even though this value is a given for us humanists, I think even the Bibull would back me up on this one.

Welcome back, Dave. Sorry I couldn't join you. I sure would have loved to have been able to.

You did a GREAT job at the convention Dave! And the 2 kids with the scholarships were wonderful to meet and their presentations were thoughtful and articulate. It was a SUPER idea to have them speak! A couple of fine young people on their way to success inthis world I would say. Good job my man!

celebrant prince your simply act of kindness to someone down on their luck almost makes me believe in humanity.what is sad is i will get my morning paper and it will be filled with stories of injustice.it is a shame that people have to be ruled with superstition and a iron fist in order to protect the innocent.
