A broad coalition of secularist, religious, and educational groups and other advocates of "good science" will be protesting this Memorial Day weekend at the opening of a Creationist Museum in Kentucky.

The Answer in Genesis Creationist Museum is a 60,000-square-foot facility that will feature state of the art exhibits and other presentations arguing on behalf of an Old Testament view of how human beings and the universe came into existence. It is meant as a statement against Darwinian evolution, and scientific findings that the cosmos is billions of years old, and that human beings evolved, along with other present-day creatures, from earlier life forms. Instead, "young Earth" creationist groups like AIG preach that the Earth is only about 6,000 years old. The museum will reportedly have exhibits reflecting the dubious claim that dinosaurs and human beings co-existed, contrary to scientific evidence.

The RALLY FOR REASON includes groups and individuals who support objective science and high standards for science instruction in public schools. It includes religious and non-religious groups ranging from the Clergy Letter Project to the Institute for Humanist Studies and American Atheists.

Edwin Kagin, organizer of the Rally stated that the protest does not challenge the right of AIG to present its views. "They can teach that things fall up if they wish," said Mr. Kagin. "We're simply trying to show that their views are based on a particular and narrow religious doctrine, not on good scientific evidence."

The RALLY FOR REASON will take place on Monday, May 28 2007 beginning at 9:00 AM in front of the Creation Museum, Petersburg Rd., Boone County, KY. More information can be found at http://www.rallyforreason.com.

There will be a RALLY FOR REASON SPEAK-OUT hosted by the Free Inquiry Group of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky on Sunday, May 27, 200 at the Hilton Cincinnati Airport Hotel, 7373 Turfway Rd., Florence, KY beginning at 7:00 PM. Speakers will include Rev. Mendle Adams; Frank Zindler (biologist, geologist); Dr. Gene Kritsky (evolutionary biologist); Helen Kagin, physician and others. From what I can tell Phreedy le Phreak has been commenting here for years and will not be leaving soon - unless he finds a job or gets an education or otherwise gets a life.
So my recommendation is to simply ridicule Le Phreek rather than shun him. Although I do enjoy a good shun now and then.

I live in Northern Kentucky myself, only about 10 miles or so from this uber-insult called the “Creationism Museum”, and I live in the town that many of them are booking hotels in. I might pay the protest a visit myself, despite I might not be able to stay long or have anything to aid in protest. But just being there, even for 20 minutes, would be worthwhile to me since this appals me very badly.

This is against modern knowledge, actual history and what historians know and believe, against science and reason, and education. This is also a sign of terrible things to come, such as I feel that it shows potential for a Christian-based fascism (which is a problem, rather you are Christian or not)…

also there is a good book called harlot by the road ,telling how rabbis and preachers haved tried to clean up all the sex talk in the bible.

Here's the final paragraph

That's the key difference between the scientific and religious journeys toward truth. Fundamental religion is based on unquestioning faith, science is based on reason that is continually questioning. They are very different paths. Visitors to the Creation Museum must understand that it is not a science museum -- it is a religious museum, whose re-imaginings of geological and biological evidence have no support from the scientific community.

I know, the article is from the brazenly heathen San Fran area. But the Aussie one I read before that made fun of the US by ending the article with the fact that 3 republican candidates admitted they didn't believe in evolution in one of the debates. :) I thought phreedm might be more disposed to this one even if it was San Franian. But without the info to compare, I guess he couldn't know.

In February, Gregory Farrington took over as executive director of the California Academy of Sciences, and immediately took up the task of constructing an operating plan to go along with the museum's new $392 million home being constructed in Golden Gate Park.

I think ole' Gregory is wondering why a little museum in Kentucky is getting more attention then his pet project...thanks in part to AA...

Here's an interesting line though...

On the other hand, if new evidence were to come to light tomorrow that refuted current views of evolution and the notion of a 4.6 billion-year-old Earth, then the scientists at the California Academy of Sciences and other science-based institutions would be the first to modify their theory of creation. The story would change, not the facts.

Would you be so willing to modify your beliefs...?

There are many "facts" which question the concept of evolution and the creation of the universe...and point to a young earth...

It's been my observation that non-believers simply ignore the question altogether...

What most IDers don't get is the fact (actually they don't know what facts are)that any believer of Evolution will immediately change his or her mind if presented with credible evidence. It's called critical thinking, a foreign concept to theists.
