I always delight in reading the scholarship contestants' essays in American Atheist and in Freethought Today-- the newspaper of the Freedom From Religion Foundation. (I belong to both: more of a good thing.) I'm delighted that we're not in competition as one Christian troll once accused us of being.

Debbie,

Please stop tilting at windmills. When you make a blanket statement like that, without providing so much as a shred of evidence, it realy shows your ignorance.

Face it: You are a mindless drone that merely parrots the propaganda you have been exposed to throughout your entire life. Try reading a book other than the bible once in a while. You might find out that mankind has progressed just a little since ancient nomadic goat fuckers wrote your instruction manual. Why, we even have horseless carriages and big iron birds that swoop around the world carrying people to far flung places, now.

Honestly, How much is a soul worth to you atheists? Will you prostitute your soul for 5 bucks like the episode of the Simpsons, where Bart sells his soul to the devil?

Cowgirlgenes,

What makes you believe you have a soul? Got any proof? Ever seen one? Touched one? Smelled one? Weighed one? Well, have you? Of course not! So I will say it again: What makes you think you HAVE a soul?

Sometimes its easiest to make points using icons of pop culture, like the Simpsons, in order to relay my point clearly to people who really dont care to see the point. ie ....atheists. The soul is our entire being outside of the mental and physical material world. Even many scientists and pshycologists understand there is more to a being than just what is physical and what is mental. We act on behaviours that have absolutely nothing to do with what we think and see. The soul encompasses our morality and who we are deep down as beings underneath all the fluff and fragility of humanity.

The only reason we don't care to hear your points is that you have nothing of substance to teach us.

Everything I believe in can be backed up by evidence. Can you say the same?

Will you prostitute your soul for 5 bucks

You mean like how all your biblical heros prostituted their daughters? How they took women and children for sex slaves (aka spoils of war)? How they forced rape victime to marry their rapists? How they offered innocent young girls to be raped to death instead of the village men having sex with their guests (aka sickos), and then stepped over their bodies (quite nonchalantly, like-Ho Hum) in the morning?

Yes, if you read your repulsive book of human offences (aka bibble), you should be quite the expert in prostitution. Got any daughters of your own to offer up? For prostitution, or whatever you gawd wants?

cowboyjeans,

Case in point:
The soul is our entire being outside of the mental and physical material world.

Do you have any evidence?

Even many scientists and pshycologists understand there is more to a being than just what is physical and what is mental.

Is there any evidence to back up this statement or are you just making it up?

We act on behaviours that have absolutely nothing to do with what we think and see.

Act on behaviors? What does that mean?

On the off chance that it's not a non sequitur, do you have any evidence that this is the case?

The soul encompasses our morality and who we are deep down as beings underneath all the fluff and fragility of humanity.

Again, we are not obligated to take you seriously until you start showing some evidence.

The definitions of "moral" and "morality" make no mention of the soul. There is nothing supernatural about morality.

Just like the Bible, your post is a bunch of words with nothing of substance to be learned.

Moses was high on drugs: Israeli researcher

Blasphemer!

JERUSALEM (AFP) - High on Mount Sinai, Moses was on psychedelic drugs when he heard God deliver the Ten Commandments, an Israeli researcher claimed in a study published this week.

Such mind-altering substances formed an integral part of the religious rites of Israelites in biblical times, Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem wrote in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy.
"As far Moses on Mount Sinai is concerned, it was either a supernatural cosmic event, which I don't believe, or a legend, which I don't believe either, or finally, and this is very probable, an event that joined Moses and the people of Israel under the effect of narcotics," Shanon told Israeli public radio on Tuesday.

I'm so confused. Help, trolls, help.

I was a xian, and then I had a soul, right? That was when I was too young to understand yet that all that bibble dribble just might be flawed.

So then I began to wonder, question and examine? I wasn't an atheist yet, not even an agnostic. Did I have a soul then?

And now, with no PROOF of anything beyond a bunch of xians parroting the same old crap, I'm an atheist. But now I don't have that soul thing you speak of, right?

Where'd it go? Oh, bet that guy with the horns and forked tail got it! Well, that's just not fair. It was my soul, dammit! What did he do with it? Where does he keep it? Does he have an entire vault where he stores these stolen souls? Maybe he just burns them up? I've heard he has fire down there. But he probably doesn't do that because as soon as you trolls convince me I'm wrong then I'll need that soul again, right? So would you tell him to take good care of it even though I won't be asking for it back for--well, like FOREVER, because I'm waiting for Troll Proof and we all know that ain't coming.

That sounds like fun. I asked because this is a very proof on demand environment. And the proof will be put to a thick analysis often. So some terms will have to be very well defined. Otherwise the discourse is considered "Preaching" and will probably go nowhere. oh,well.

Agreed. If that was a dig on atheism, then you missed the point.

There's no arrogance in my atheism, just a demand for some evidence. Do you or do you not have any? Until you answer that question plainly, you have no business here.

Debbie,

If you are still reading this, you might want to sit down. I am about to say something nice to you.

If you have children, you are a lifelong teacher. Your children study you for cues, even when you don't realize it. You teach your children with every one of your actions.

Although I understand your meaning to be that you do not make your living teaching, you are in fact a teacher. IMHO

One learns in the study of education that the first thing any good teacher should do is to call their students prostitutes and tell them they will burn in hell forever. The christians here have very good teaching techniques. We atheists can learn a lot from them. I can only hope one day to be so skilled in the art of teaching.

Debbie has no business here, anyhow. This is an Atheist site, by Atheists, for Atheists, with the rare exception of people like Spanders, whom is readily tolerated, because he is so tolerent of our right to believe as we will.

I have never, nor would I ever dream of going to, a Christian website and tell them they are wrong, or ignorant, or lost, ad nauseam.

Say, didn't a wise man once say something about doing to others as you would have others do to you? Oh yeah! It was 'Buddy Jesus'.

See the hypocrite drink. See the hypocrite drive. See the hypocrite die... Don't be a hypocrite!

Maybe you should have some sort of qualifications before you start spouting superstitious nonsense, and then refer to it as 'teaching'. I'm still trying to figure out the 'learning' involved in making a religiously insane comment about someone going to some imaginary place because other people rewarded them for their scholastic ability.

I am sure Debbie is a fine person... in person. Just as I am not a prick to everyone I meet, just the ones that show up here and make the same old tired arguments that have been shot down so many times before. Then, when their comprehension skills are lacking, well, there just is no reasoning with them. The best we can do is to ridicule them in the hopes it shuts them up and makes them go away. (Oh darn. I think I just gave away my strategy)

cowsomethingorother,

It is a proven fact that reality has a liberal bias. How do I know? Because I said so, that's how. Or, perhaps if I said, "it is written" I would be more credible?

Jay-
I wonder if she wants every baby in the world to go to hell too, seeing as they are all atheists.

Debbie-
Let me stop you now before you try to argue this one. A baby has no belief in any god or gods, therefore, it is an atheist. It doesn't 'become' a religious person until someone (parents, usually) indoctrinates them into said religion.

No belief in a god or gods=atheist.

So, does that mean you want all babies in the world to go to hell?

I'm not holding my breath for a clear answer on this one, by the way.

The way to accept jeebus-daddy is to drink some supposed human blood that they say came from the father-son thing and munch down on a hunk of rancid flesh from the same origin. Which probably is connected to the christian seeing visions and hearing voices in their heads.
