Typing is too loud

Hi everyone from Mineapolis! Well, guess what- I introduced Dawkins and no irrelevant barbarians tried to kill me for posting that last entry.

Dawkins was very good, and spoke to the hungry-for-him crowd for two full hours. After his speech, I told him he was "ok" in a reassurative way, just as a litle joke -- and he accepted the reassurance with good humor. Interestingly, we had no books for him to sign (the publisher screwed up) so he only signed books that people already had -- and that took an HOUR! It seems everyone already has all his books!

We then had some other great panels, and will probably be making a few announcements on this blog in the coming days or hours.

In the mean time, a gang of Atheists hit the snowy streets last night at about 10pm, and I made it back to bed at 2;45. Now I'm awake, at 9am, wearing a tie, knowing I have stuff to do, not not knowing exactly what. Where are the irrelevant barbarians when you need them?

Wow...I guess everyone's finally realizing how many parties the upper management of AA attend on the faithful tithing of it's members...

So...here's something to chew upon.

Take the question of Jesus' existence. Dawkins may have his reservations; so might Onfray and Hitchens. But no one who is actually doing ancient history does. I contacted three eminent ancient history professors this week and asked if they knew of any professional historian who argued that Jesus never lived. They did not. Professor Graeme Clarke of the Australian National University was happy to go on the record as saying: "Frankly, I know of no ancient historian or biblical historian who would have a twinge of doubt about the existence of a Jesus Christ - the documentary evidence is simply overwhelming." Dawkins inadvertently proves the point. In The God Delusion his sole example of a serious historical case against the existence of Jesus is that of "Professor G.A. Wells of the University of London". Dawkins does not mention that George Wells is a professor of German language, not history.

That Jesus lived cannot be disputed. In addition to the plentiful Christian sources of the first century, we have two references to Jesus by the first-century Jewish writer Josephus, one mention by the great Roman chronicler Tacitus and a highly probable reference by Mara bar Serapion, a little-known Syrian writer of the first century. From these non-Christian sources we learn not only when and where Jesus lived and died but also that he was a famous teacher and healer. Josephus speaks of paradoxa erga, "extraordinary deeds". I recently interviewed Professor Geza Vermes of the University of Oxford and asked him about these intriguing words. Vermes is a leading biblical historian and committed Jew. He explained what virtually everyone in the field today considers beyond doubt: Jesus did things which friend and foe alike thought were supernatural. What those things were the historian cannot say. All we know with near certainty is that Jesus' contemporaries found them extraordinary.

Phreedumnuts:

Jesus never walked on water though. It's all a myth just like how John Titor never really time traveled and how OJ Simpson never really killed anyone.

I enjoyed the conference and thought it was great you got Dawkins to come speak. I think the Q&A section was the most valuable (even with the unfortunately high number of 'questions' by people who just wanted to make another point).

When Krauss finished his talk, the first in line to ask a question was professor Dawkins, then we were told there would be no questions. Such a shame! To make it worse we then broke for a 45 minute break! Ah well... I look forward to next year and hope there is more time for questions & discussions. Without a continued focus on interaction, many members will have a hard time justifying the 500+ mile flights away from youtube at home.

Well phreedy scissor hands, what evidence do these scholars have of the supposed existence of Jeebus?

There is no evidence. The first person to write about him was the psychotic Paul who never had any personal contact or information about him.

Of course you are too cowardly to respond to any of my posts. Maybe you will make an exception this time, but I won't hold my breath.

Happy Zombie day.

I'm going to be something far more useful (and fun) than you- I'm going skiing with the wife!
Maybe have a little wine and cheese with lunch.

Praise Cheeses!

Ya' know, every time a religious wack-job makes a post like yours, it just pushes me farther away from religion (if that's possible). So, if all you are trying to do is attract people to your idiocy, it's probably backfiring.

Suck it, Jesus!

Here's a poor attempt from a Jesus Freak creationist trying to make the point that because of Charles Darwin...we have the race relationship problems that we understand happening on the globe today....

http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/nab/are-there-different-races

The poor sap eventually begins the argument by stating race problems didnt start until Darwin's Theories were published an excepted....wait it gets better....then he states this quote:

Both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible mention slaves and slavery. As with all other biblical passages, these must be understood in their grammatical-historical context.....

the author goes on to pick and choose passages from the written word trying to support his flailing
argument...something similar to what phreedm and the like do....

I think I'll watch Night of the Living Dead....at least there are real people playing characters in it...

Christ-on-a-praised-cheese-stick Breakfast Burritos

2 small 8" tortillas
1 slice swiss cheese
2 scrabbled (pancake style) eggs
1 slice cooked Jesus (or bacon)

Cut scrabbled eggs in half put one on center of each tortilla. Break cheese into 4 equal sticks and arrange mormon death cross style on egg. Put 1/2 Jesus on each mormon death cross. Secure the Jesus by wrapping in tortilla blanket. Microwave on high for about 30 seconds or 50% for about a minute, till the death cross is melted and Jesus is comfortably warm.

Yum!

This is about as public as forums get. You can come here and say anything, respond to anything, and do not get kicked off for saying dissenting opinions. Exactly what would make this forum more public?

Well, didn't get hurt skiing. That's always a great plus.

Proof that god doesn't exist if I've ever seen one (makes just as much sense as the fundy argument for the existence of the invisible man).

What better way to prove yourself- have an atheist get injured on zombie day.

No proof, no belief.

Subject them to your inquisition, and then punish them for the sins you've invented for them in your mind.

Sweet gig if you can get it. Not sure if you have enough Prada shoes or political clout to do it, though...

Um, mental midget - this is a public forum.

If you actually has shown you were capable of debating (instead of, as others have rightly pointed out, just dropping unsubstantiated, unsupported cultish superstitious claims into the comments), this might have some meaning.

To make the box blockquotes, type

{blockquote]info to be quoted[/blockquote]

only, instead of the brackets, use the left arrow and right arrow keys. :)

It might not be completely apparent which "arrow keys" to use, as in math they are at times referred to as the 'greater than' and 'less than' symbols. So as typed it looks like this:

Put text you want in the "box thing" here

The "/" is required on the ending tag or in this case blockquote.

Then, when it is rendered on the comments page it looks like this:
Put text you want in the "box thing" here
