American Atheists holds a National Convention each year to bring together members of the atheist community from all over the nation—and the world—to celebrate reason, rationality, and atheism. Past convention speakers include Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Dr. Sian Proctor, Chris Kluwe, Greta Cristina, Hugh Laurie, State Rep. Athena Salman, activist Jim Obergefell, and many others.

With educational presentations, social events, comedy and game nights, training workshops, exhibits, and opportunities for networking, National Conventions are the highlight of the year for hundreds of American atheists.

Our 2023 National Convention is April 6–9 in Phoenix! Learn more on the convention website.

American Atheists conventions have traditionally been held over Easter weekend in cities including Atlanta, Cincinnati, Salt Lake City, Memphis, Austin, Denver, Oklahoma City, and Des Moines. In 2017, American Atheists celebrated the first total solar eclipse in the continental United States in decades by hosting our National Convention in North Charleston, SC, in August.
