American Atheists is extremely well known for our outspoken, unapologetic, and sometimes-controversial billboard campaigns. From our 2012 Times Square billboard which encouraged people to "Keep the Merry, Dump the Myth" to our series of billboards in Texas featuring prominent outrageous quotations from political leaders, American Atheists will continue to raise awareness of atheism and encourage atheists who are "in the closet" to be honest about their beliefs with their friends, family, and community.
Our outreach work is one of the most important things we can do to continue to normalize atheism in the public sphere. People think nothing of churches placing billboards, but the moment we do, it becomes national news. Because of its importance, we have established a $50,000 Matching Challenge that will double all contributions to our Public Outreach Fund.
